Coronavirus Update
Dear South Durham Church Family and Friends,
Out of love one another and for our community during the Coronavirus pandemic, the elders have decided to take the following steps in this unusual time:
Sunday Worship is Cancelled, 3/15
We know the great importance of gathered worship (Hebrews 10:24–25), and yet we believe this decision is the best in keeping with the command to love our neighbor as ourselves. We will communicate by 3/19 whether or not we will gather on 3/22.
Join Us On Facebook Live, Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
We’ll go live on our Facebook page with a brief video devotion on how we, as believers in Christ, can care well for each other and our neighbors in the midst of this outbreak. If you can’t join us then, you’ll be able to find the recording on our Facebook page afterwards.
Activities Cancelled This Week
The Monday Community Group, SoDu Youth, and the Saturday Women’s Ministry outing to Carolina Reserve are also cancelled this week. Aaron will be in touch with the Wednesday Community Group about whether they will meet. D-Groups may continue to meet at their discretion.
Caring for Each Other
We have in contact with our members and attenders who are at elevated risk and who may need to stay home for some time. If you are not at elevated risk and would be willing to check in with those who are, please let us know by responding to this email. This may involve phone calls, help bringing groceries, or service in other ways.
Remember we are collecting a special offering this month for the Benevolence Fund. Those gifts will help us to meet any needs that may arise. If you need help, counsel, or prayer during this time, please reach out to us or another brother or sister in the church.
Ministering to Others
Because of this virus, we have a unique opportunity to minister to our neighbors, especially while our community is self-distancing and staying home. Check in on your neighbors. Be in prayer and share the hope you have in Jesus with someone who is anxious, afraid, or in need.
We have a Savior who has already defeated death (1 Corinthians 15). Nothing can now separate us from the love of God in Christ (Romans 8:31–39). A lot of people need that hope today. May your trust in Jesus be fearless and infectious today and in the days ahead.
We are praying for you, we are here for you, and we love you.
We’ll continue to be in touch via email and Slack. We intend to communicate further updates by Thursday, 3/19.
Greg, Donnie, and Adam
